For complete step-by-step instructions on setting up, configuring and managing your tap to claim promotion, see our primary article on Tap to Claim Promotions.
Your Tap to Claim card is the card-shaped device you tap on a customer's phone. (It's different from the FavorDrop Card your customer receives.
Keep it safe. Every tap can open a Claim Form for a real, funded FavorDrop Card, so the Tap to Claim card itself is your main protection against misuse. Treat it like a payment card: keep it with you or within a staff member's sight, and never leave it out for anyone to use. If one goes missing, contact FavorDrop support right away.
When in doubt, tap again. Each tap opens a Claim Form that works for only a few minutes, and only on that one phone. We don't list every safeguard here, but when one gets in the way of a real customer, a fresh tap almost always fixes it: pull the card away, wait about 5 seconds, and tap again.
The phone doesn't react to the tap
Unlock the phone. Phones won't read the card when the screen is off or locked.
On iPhone, close the camera and Wallet. An iPhone ignores the card while either is open, and customers often have the camera open looking for a QR code.
Find the sweet spot.
iPhone: touch the card to the top of the back, near the camera. If that doesn't work, hold it just above the phone's top edge.
Android: phones vary. Start at the middle of the back, just below the cameras, and slide slowly toward the top.
Move slowly, and hold still for a second or two once the phone reacts. Quick wobbling can make the phone read the card twice, which shows an error.
Check the case. Thick or metal cases, and wallet cases with cards inside, can block the tap. Try another spot, or take the phone out of its case.
Turn off Airplane Mode.
Older phones may not work. Phones from before about 2018 may not be able to read the card.
A notification pops up, but nothing opens
On iPhone and some newer Android phones, the tap shows a small notification at the top of the screen. The customer has to tap that notification to open the Claim Form. If it disappears first, tap the card again.
NFC might be off (Android only)
NFC is the phone feature that reads the card. iPhones have no NFC switch; it's always on.
Samsung Galaxy: swipe down from the top of the screen and tap NFC so it's highlighted. Don't see it? Swipe down again to see all buttons, or tap the pencil (Edit) icon to add it.
Google Pixel and other Android phones: open Settings, type NFC in the search bar, and turn on Use NFC.
The page says "Invalid tap"
This mostly blank page usually means the card was read twice too fast, or two phones were tapped within a few seconds of each other.
Pull the card away, wait about 5 seconds, then tap once and hold still.
Serve one customer at a time: wait until the first customer's Claim Form is open before tapping the next phone.
The Claim Form says "We couldn't complete your claim"
The form was probably open too long. Customers should submit within about 5 minutes of the form opening. Tap again and fill it out right away.
Stay on the page that opened from the tap. The form only works in the browser where it first opened. Copying the link into another app or browser won't work.
If a fresh tap fails too, check the details:
Each person can claim once per promotion. If they already claimed with this email or phone number, their FavorDrop Card is in their FavorDrop Wallet (in the FavorDrop app or on the web).
Use their everyday email address (no "+" extras) and a regular US phone number.
The page says the promotion "isn't available"
Just one customer: have them switch between Wi-Fi and cellular, turn off any VPN app, and tap again.
Every customer: the promotion may have ended or reached its spend cap, or your account may be low on funds. Contact whoever manages your FavorDrop account, or FavorDrop support.
The customer uses a VPN app
Some VPN apps make a phone look like it's in another country, which can block a claim. Ask the customer to turn it off and tap again.
A checkbox asks the customer to confirm they're not a robot
That's a normal security check. Have them check the box and submit again.
When you contact support about a tap, tell us roughly when it happened and what the screen said. That helps us find it fast.
